BRIAN’S TESTIMONY

(CHU-SHENG HSIEH)

I was born in a non-Christian family in Taiwan. My parents are devout believers in Taoism, but I was not really keen on that because Taoism has many gods to respect. I saw how people acted when the spirits of these gods come into them – they go into a trance and cut themselves and blood is everywhere. So I was an atheist before being touched by Christ.

My life was hard when I met Jesus. My older sister was having terminal cancer and life was uncertain. I’d been taking care of her in the last part of her life. I saw her toughly confront cancer with Jesus. Her bravery touched my heart, and I knew her power was from Jesus.

When I came to Australia, I felt that God was with me in many ways. I heard about this church from my friend. He said it is place where I can meet other young people and improve my English. One Friday night in August last year, there was a special meeting in church with many university students [Overseas Christian Fellowship]. The speaker talked about Jesus. I could understand her! I wanted to know Jesus. In this church I met a lot of kind people who encouraged me and helped me make a life overseas. I think that’s under God’s plan, even though sometimes bad things happen to me. However, the Bible always teaches me to face them positively, and God heals my heart.

I’ve been learning how to love people without any conditions, and to forgive people who had hurt me before. I have pity for people who are ill. I hope they have family members to comfort and care for them. I am happy in my faith now and I am not alone anymore. Now I stand in God’s kingdom. I gave my life into His hands, and I will follow wherever He wants me to go.
